Why do we need Accessibility?
- Internet Accessibility allows for a larger participating audience. Accessible websites will expand a site's potential audience to the millions who are disabled, or who have slow connections.
- Accessible websites deliver an excellent platform to newer technology products such as hand held PDA's, Internet enabled Phones, TV's etc..
- Makes the site friendly to search engines and hence more widely advertised.
- In some countries, it's the law. In the United States, for example, the Americans with Disabilities Act requires reasonable accommodation for employees with disabilities, and that requirement extends to website accessibility.
- Accessibility is the right thing to do. It helps achieve societal goals of full participation and of equality.
